šŸ•Æ Candle Care Tips: How to Make Your Meph Candle Last Longer and Burn Beautifully

Hey love,

So you've welcomed a Meph candle into your space—yay! Whether it's the soft warmth of Lavender + Sandalwood or the bold depth of Smoked Whiskey & Oud, we know it’s more than just scent. It’s a little ritual, a way to pause, a tiny luxury you deserve.

But here’s the thing: to make the most of your handmade soy candle, a little TLC goes a long way. So let me share some of our favorite candle care tips—because your flame deserves to burn slow, clean, and beautiful.

šŸ”„ 1. Trim the Wick Before Every Burn

Before you light your candle, gently trim the wick to about ¼ inch.
This prevents:

  • Excessive smoke

  • Uneven burning

  • That annoying black soot build-up on your jar

šŸ–¤ Pro tip: A wick trimmer or even clean nail scissors works beautifully.

ā³ 2. Let the Wax Pool on the First Burn

The first time you light your candle, let it burn long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the jar (usually 2–3 hours).
Why? Because:

  • It prevents ā€œtunnelingā€

  • Ensures an even burn every time

  • Helps your candle last longer!

Think of it as letting your candle stretch its legs a little.

šŸ’Ø 3. Avoid Drafts and Fans

Place your candle somewhere calm—away from ceiling fans, open windows, or AC vents.
A steady flame means:

  • A cleaner, safer burn

  • Less flickering and wasted wax

  • Better fragrance throw

🧼 4. Keep the Jar Clean

Soot happens.
Wipe the inside of your jar with a dry tissue or cloth between burns to keep it looking lovely and luxe.

šŸ•°ļø 5. Don’t Burn It for More Than 4 Hours at a Time

Yes, we know it’s tempting to let it go all night—but trust us, your candle (and your space) will thank you.
Overburning can:

  • Overheat the wax

  • Drown the wick

  • Lessen your candle’s lifespan

Light it, love it, then let it rest.

šŸ™…ā™€ļø 6. Stop Using the Candle When ½ Inch of Wax Remains

Once your candle reaches the bottom, it’s time to let go.
Lighting it beyond this point can cause the jar to overheat or crack. Instead, save that last bit of wax for a wax warmer—or just repurpose the jar (they’re too pretty to toss, anyway!).
